GET INVOLVED

METS is composed of a team of hardworking executive members and volunteers who work behind the scenes to ensure that we consistently provide services that best meet the needs and interests of our community. There are numerous ways to get involved in the work that we do and the impact that we create at METS.


METS is not only an approved service organization by Florida Bright Futures that rewards high school volunteers with community service hours for their work, but it is also a great resume builder for college students and community members. STEM NIGHT VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Development Volunteer​

This position is intended for current high school and college students. Development Volunteers are responsible for creating one or more informational display board(s) to accompany the experiment, live demonstration, and/or activity featured at each booth during STEM Night. The purpose of these presentation boards is to supplement the guests' understanding of the science behind the exhibit while facilitating engagement and real world connections. 10 volunteer hours will be awarded for each board created. Applications for this position are currently closed.

Requirements:

-Good academic standing (2.5 Unweighted GPA or higher)

-Currently pursuing or interest in pursuing a career in a STEM field (preferred)

-Proficient internet researching skills

-Access to resources and materials needed to create a visually appealing and grade-appropriate presentation board

-Ability to transport presentation board(s) to a METS representative or the location of STEM Night

Day Of Volunteer​

This is an in-person position intended for current high school and college students. Day Of Volunteers are responsible for running a booth during STEM Night. This includes managing an experiment, live demonstration, or hands-on activity while communicating STEM information to guests in an engaging and grade-appropriate manner. Day Of Volunteers may also assist with greeting guests at welcome tables, guiding guests from booth to booth and/or operating concession stands.  5 volunteer hours will be awarded to each volunteer. Requirements:

-Good academic standing (2.5 Unweighted GPA or higher)

-Currently pursuing or interest in pursuing a career in a STEM field (preferred)

-Ability to communicate difficult scientific topics in a manner suitable for an elementary-level audience
-Personable, outgoing personality

-Experience working with young students (preferred)

-Excellent public speaking skills
