METS was founded in May 2021 by four then-high school juniors at Tampa Bay Technical High School. As young women of color pursuing various careers in science and technology, we aimed to make STEM fields more representative of the diversity that we saw in our community. What began as a space for us to explore our interests within science communication and education quickly grew into a network of students and educators spanning the East Coast dedicated to empowering future generations of mathematicians, engineers, and scientists. We work to bring attention to disparities commonly faced by marginalized individuals during their scientific journeys and to mitigate them by ensuring that resources for academic and career success in these fields are within reach for every student.
